We’ve all been there. You’re leaving a late-night movie or a show — after most of the restaurants have turned their lights off — and the midnight munchies hit. Where to go?

We rounded up a list of late night joints so you don’t have to go hungry. From pizza to bar food to dan dan noodles, bookmark this list for the next time you’re starving after hours.

The Golden Pineapple | 503 Haywood Rd. | Wed.-Mon.,5 p.m.-12 a.m.

  • We recommend the katsu sando (read: wagyu beef bologna, bulldog sauce + shredded cabbage on milk bread), bodega sandwich + dan dan noodles.

The Malvern | 1478 Patton Ave. | 4 p.m.-2 a.m.

  • This West Asheville neighborhood joint, which boasts top-notch fried chicken, creative plant-based options (General Tso’s tempeh salad and specialty street corn) + handhelds like the “Cuban burger” and “McRib,” is definitely worth your time.

The Barksdale | 42 Banks Ave. | 3:30 p.m.-2 a.m.

  • This hidden, members-only treasure is more of a cocktail bar than an eatery, but it always has remarkably creative hot dogs on deck. Take, for example, this Caesar-salad-styled dawg or the “Japanese Buzzsaw” with sweet pickled carrots, sushi ginger, gochujang kewpie mayo + wasabi pea powder. 🤯

The Odditorium | 1045 Haywood Rd. | ‘til 2 a.m. daily (besides Tuesday)

  • Come for the nostalgic comfort food (think: burgers, cheese balls, tamales, hotdogs), stay for the pool tables, pinball, and punk rock vibes.

Bens Tune Up | 195 Hilliard Ave. | Mon., Wed., Thurs., ‘til 11 p.m.; Fri.-Sun., ‘til 12 a.m.

  • The perfect spot for an Asian-fusion fix, with crowd-pleasing dumplings, egg rolls, and wonton nachos. The sesame noodle salad and kimchi brat also make for fun selections.

Good ole-fashioned bar food

The Barrelhouse | 1459 Merrimon Ave. | 4 p.m.-2 a.m.

  • Count on this North Asheville spot to get you fed every night of the week, with classics like burgers, sandwiches, and BLTs, plus handcrafted pierogies.

Foggy Mountain | 12 Church St. | Tues.-Sun., 12-11 p.m.; Thurs.-Sat.,12 p.m.-12 a.m.

  • This convenient downtown spot runs the gamut from wings to gyros to plant-based specials like the eggplant sandwich + hummus wrap. They also have a to-die-for mac and cheese.

Westville Pub | 777 Haywood Rd. | 10:30 a.m.-1 a.m.

  • Get standard Southern fare like wings, beer battered baskets, and chicken tenders. Want healthier? Try the Mediterranean plate with olives, pita chips, hummus, and veggies.

The One Stop at Asheville Music Hall | 55 College St. | Sun., Tues.-Thurs., ‘til 1 a.m.; ‘til 2 a.m. on weekends

  • Located below the music hall, this spot often has live music blasting. The menu is full of all things cheesy, carby + delicious.

The Social | 1078 Tunnel Rd. | ‘til 12 a.m. on weeknights and 2 a.m. on weekends

  • The wings, sandwiches, salads, and made-to-order burgers are all tasty late night options. Plus, there’s darts and other fun bar games.

The Rankin Vault | 7 Rankin Ave. | Mon., Tues., Thurs., 1-11 p.m.; 1 p.m.-2 a.m. on weekends

  • The renowned Vault Burger has won the WNC Battle of the Burger 5 years running. Folks also love the nachos, burritos + avocado-tempeh melt.
