Every time we look around, it seems like something new is popping up in Asheville. Whether you’re looking for your next go-to brunch destination or a new public park to stretch your legs, we’re rounding up a few things coming soon to the Land of the Sky this quarter.

Pratt & Whitney, Biltmore Park | Opening mid 2023 | The 1.2 million-sqft facility will build turbine airfoils for civilian and military airplanes and create ~800 new jobs.
Tesla Dealership, 291 Sweeten Creek Rd. | Opening date TBD | This 40,148-sqft dealership, proposed for the former site of the Asheville Ballroom and Dance Centre, would include a 130 car display area and charging stations.

Ernest, 135 Sweeten Creek Rd. | Opening March 15 | This new 30,000 sq-ft co-warehousing facility is ideal for local makers and entrepreneurs who have outgrown their existing space and want to scale up their business.
Dining
Montford Deli, 1461 N. Merrimon Ave. | Opening March 15 | The former Nick’s Grill restaurant space will offer all your Montford Deli favorites for dine-in and drive-thru service.
“Mother 2.0,” 224 Short Coxe Ave. | Opening Spring 2023 | Though we don’t yet know the name of Mother AVL’s new South Slope location, we know it will offer European-style fare with an emphasis on the bread and wine its original location is known for.
Good Hot Fish, South Slope | Opening date TBD | We’re chomping at the bit for Top Chef alum and former head chef of Benne on Eagle Ashleigh Shanti’s fish-camp style eatery.

Sunny Day Play Space, 36 Rosscraggon Rd. | An informal play space with an array of activities for infants, toddlers, and preschoolers age 6 years and younger.

The historic Stephens-Lee Recreation Centerhas turned100. Upon opening in 1923, it was known as Stephens-Lee High School, and was the only secondary school for area Black students. The center will host a big celebration next year, and in the meantime, see its new archive room. 🎂 (WLOS)

Outdoors
The NC Wildlife Resources Commission is asking folks that fish “deep river sites and impounded waters” to be on the lookout for hellbenders + mudpuppy sightings. The giant salamanders are native to WNC and listed as species of special concern. Biologists want to learn more about their movement patterns and growth. 🦎 (WCNC)

To celebrate bluegrass musician Doc Watson’s centennial birthday this month, nonprofit Friends of the Blue Ridge will host the inaugural Blue Ridge Jamboree concert. Taking place Saturday, March 25 at the Wortham Center, the fundraising event will feature music from artists that performed, recorded, and toured with Doc. Get tickets. 🪕

Applications for Ashevillle GreenWorks’ Youth Environmental Leadership Program are now open. Open to young BIPOC adults aged 18-22, the program offers educational outdoor experiences, career exploration opportunities, and mentorship from local environmental leaders. Apply. 🌳

Get ready to pawty. The second annual Dog’s Night Out will take place at Twin Leaf Brewing (144 Coxe Ave.) on Tuesday, March 14 from 5-9 p.m.
A fundraising event for Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, the evening is an opportunity for parents and their four-legged kids to enjoy craft beer, mobile wood-fired ’za from Smokee’s Pizza, a dog photo booth, dog treats, and animal trivia. There’s also the chance to win a pretty pawesome raffle of fun pet products.
One dollar from each beer sold that night will be donated to Brother Wolf, as well as 100% of the raffle proceeds. Admission is free.
