Predicting fall color in Asheville
Orange you glad it’s fall? | Graphic by @travelguideasheville
To us, watching the leaves turn from vibrant shades of green to tones of amber, scarlet, and rust is one of the most spectacular things in the world.
This year, Appalachian State University’s fall color report predicts that the city of Asheville + other areas at 2,000-3,000 feet of elevation will see peak fall foliage during the fourth week of October. Areas at over 5,000 feet of elevation like Black Balsam, Max Patch, Mount Mitchell, and Grandfather Mountain will begin to experience leaf color transformation as early as the week of October 1. If that’s not enough, here are some more fall foliage insights.
Wanna know some of our favorite places to see the leaves? Here are some driving-distance spots + pro tips to finding the best views in the city.
