  • Realtor Elizabeth Putnam will replace Leah Wong Ashburn on the Buncombe County TDA Board. Ashburn, the Highland Brewing Co. president and CEO, has served the maximum of two consecutive terms. Elizabeth will represent the board’s short-term rental position and plans to spread awareness about the TDA’s work. (Asheville Citizen-Times)
  • At its Thursday, Nov. 15 meeting, Asheville City Council heard an update on the 2022-2023 Code Purple Plan. This year, 27 additional shelter beds will be available (for a total of 105) and there’s also a Code Purple work group to keep operations more centralized. See the rest of the action agenda.

  • Buncombe County commissioners have voted to conserve 202 acres of forested ridgeline in Sandy Mush, located on the northwestern side of the county. This brings the county closer to its goal of conserving 20% of Buncombe County lands by 2030. (Asheville Citizen-Times)

Forget Netflix and get into the holiday spirit with these festive local theater productions.

The city’s longest-running playhouse, Asheville Community Theatre (35 E. Walnut St.), brings beloved modern classic Elf to the main stage with “Elf The Musical.” Featuring jolly costumes, dancing, and tunes, this heartwarming tale about Buddy the Elf runs from Friday, Dec. 2-Sunday, Dec. 18 and inspires all of us to accept our “inner elf.” Performances take place Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2:30 p.m., including a performance Thursday, Dec. 15 at 7:30 p.m. Get tickets.

Add some British pomp to your holidays with the Multiverse Theatre Collective’s (The BeBe Theater, 20 Commerce St.) “Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley” and “The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley.” Set at the Pemberley estate, these Christmas-themed productions center around characters from Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. “Miss Bennet” runs from Friday, Nov. 25-Sunday, Nov. 27 and “The Wickhams” takes place Friday, Dec. 9-Sunday, Dec. 18. Performances for both shows are Friday and Saturday nights at 7:30 p.m. and Sundays at 3 p.m. Get tickets.
