Since opening in July 2022, Neng Jr.'s has graced publications like Bon Appetit and Esquire as one of the best newcomers to the culinary scene. Now, the Filipinx-Southern eatery can also add James Beard finalist to its list of accolades.

On Wednesday, March 29, the James Beard Foundation announced Neng Jr.'s as a finalist for the 2023 Best New Restaurant award. It’s the only restaurant in Asheville to be named as finalist this year, though Josiah McGaughey of Vivian did receive a nod as a semifinalist for Best Chefs - Southeast.

Interested in who else was tapped as a finalist? See the full list. This year’s winners will be announced at the James Beard Restaurant and Chef Awards ceremony on Monday, June 5 in Chicago.

I had the chance to eat Neng Jr’s a few months ago and I can attest that this restaurant is truly deserving of its James Beard honor. I’m still thinking about the soy-washed adobo martini, monkfish laing, and funky queso ice cream.
