How to get into popular Asheville restaurants

Table for… none? We know rejection can be all too common when trying to find a reservation (or walk in) at a popular Asheville restaurant. But don’t take it too personally. Whether you’re hoping for a bite at Chai Pani or Neng Jr.'s, a few tricks of the trade can boost your chances. Master these, and you’ll never go hungry again.
👀 Keep eyes on Insta
Make sure to hunt down restaurant accounts on Instagram, where many reservation announcements are made. You’ll also want to bookmark Tock and OpenTable pages and refresh them like you’re buying Taylor Swift tickets once table availability goes live.
Where this might help: Vivian, a fine dining spot in the RAD, regularly posts about reservation openings on its Instagram page. Filipino eatery Neng Jr.'s also shares on its Instagram stories when new, often last-second openings emerge.
⏰ Be flexible on meal times
Most tables get snapped up quickly during prime meal times, but if you don’t mind eating at slower times, you can still find great seats.
Where this might help: Cúrate Tapas Bar offers a lunch service Friday-Sunday which usually has openings. Chai Pani also recently shared that the best time for locals to stop by is lunchtime from Monday-Wednesday.
And while a typical brunch wait for Sunny Point Cafe can be upwards of an hour, the dinner service — which includes breakfast specialties like huevos rancheros and fried chicken biscuits — often involve no wait at all.
🍸 Sidle up to the bar
Hop up onto that stool — restaurant bars are the best for those flying solo or if you want to grab a last-minute meal.
Where this might help: If you want Table-quality food without a reservation, check out the attached bar for craft cocktails and a late-night menu of small bites like oysters, wings, and a killer cheeseburger.

Hay, AVL. Looking for something memorable to do this Saturday? Grab the fam or a group of friends for a fun-filled tailgating + horse racing event, happening this Saturday, April 15.
A Western NC tradition since 1948 (with a fun history dating back to 18th century Ireland), the 75th annual Tryon Block House Steeplechase welcomes horses and jockeys from around the US to compete in four “steeplechase” races as spectators watch from the sidelines, tailgate style.
Taking place in Columbus, NC (a ~45 drive away), the event includes a host of additional activities starting at 10 a.m., including:
Live music
Parade of the Hounds
Kids Zone
Food + local merchant vendors
Beer garden
Fancy Hats & Crazy Pants contests (read: spectacular hats and outfits are encouraged)
Tickets are sold by the carload — meaning one ticket is good for up to six people, along with the car, a pop-up, and tailgate spread (pro tip: go casual or make it fancy). Non-tailgate, per-car tickets are also available.*

We’re firm believers in spoiling the ones we love — especially our pets. That’s why we’re adding these two things to our shopping carts: this customizable velvet collar and this durable bed that features a removable slipcover. Don’t forget the treats. We love these soft chews for doggos and these freeze dried snacks for cats.

One of our favorite things about you, our readers, is that you’re always teaching us new things about our city. For instance, several of you brought to our attention that, while wonderful, bird feeders can actually bring about bear safety issues.
Were you unaware about this like we were? See these tips from Bearwise to learn more. And if you’re looking for a feeder-free way to attract bird friends, try adding native plants or a bird bath to your outdoor setup.
PSA: Spicewalla is having an online “Goodbye Sale” for its soon-to-be discontinued spices. If you love a deal, check out these discounts. Personally, I’ve got my eye on the Indian Essentials collection and the organic Piri Piri.
