Concert
The Asheville Symphony will no longer hold concerts at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium due to a problem with the HVAC system. But the show must go on. All planned shows for the season will take place, now in several locations across the city. Season tickets are on sale now, with single tickets on sale in August.
Development
In early 2021, Homeward Bound purchased the former Days Inn on Tunnel Rd. with plans to repurpose the space as housing for Asheville’s homeless individuals. Eleanor Ashton, Homeward Bound’s senior resource development director, provided an update on the project, sharing that they “hope to start moving in staff in July and residents in August.” (WLOS)
Cause
United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County announced the opening of its United for Youth Community Grants Application. $250,000 will be awarded to projects that provide equitable access to opportunities, create internships and apprenticehsips, and build connections within the community and role models in schools. Applications close Sunday, July 23.
Outdoors
Tuesday, July 4 is Free Fishing Day. The NC Wildlife Commission sponsors the day, where residents can fish without having to purchase a license. However, all other fishing regulations apply, such as possession limits and bait and tackle restrictions. (Mountain Xpress)
