When it comes to Asheville’s shopping scene, we love a good treasure hunt — and a good bargain. Our city is home to several fabulous flea markets, cool co-ops, stellar vintage shops, and resale gems. So get in, we’re going shopping.
Flea markets

Flea markets have never been edgier. Setting up once a month at Fleetwood’s, the market hosts vendors from NC and beyond selling studded leather, forged goods, and all kinds of other fringe favorites.
Smiley’s Flea Market, 5360 Hendersonville Rd., Fletcher
This classic flea market is worth a trip. Since it was founded in 1984, Smiley’s has expanded to over 100,000 square feet of vendors with 700 outdoor stalls + an antique mall longer than a football field.
Vintage shops
Sweeten Creek Antiques & Collectibles,115 Sweeten Creek Rd.
The sprawling store’s 125 vendors feature items for every style + budget. Find furniture and glassware, rooms of vintage clothes, unusual decor, and more lining the aisles.
Wildflowers Vintage, 27 Foundy St. Ste 30
In this little shop in the River Arts District, you’ll find a cool collection of unique clothing — jeans and tees, jackets and dresses. A new wardrobe is just waiting.
So much to shop, so little time.

Hey, parents of teens: Is your high schooler thinking of attending UNC Asheville? The university welcomes students + families to experience the campus by scheduling a Daily Tour. Pro tip: Take a campus tour to the next level with an all-day Open House on Saturday, Oct. 14 or Saturday, Nov. 4.*

Botiwalla is open for business
It’s casual cuisine done right. | Photo by Tim Robison
Botiwalla Asheville officially opened its doors on Monday, Aug. 28. The much-anticipated West Asheville restaurant is the product of Meherwan Irani, chef and CEO of the James Beard Award-winning Chai Pani — not to mention Buxton Hall Barbecue and Spicewalla — and takes inspiration from both India’s Irani cafes and the country’s late-night street food scene.
The inspiration behind Botiwalla is to “bring the streets of India to life,” and its menu reflects that delicious mission. The casual fare includes okra fries and masala smashed potatoes, tikka rolls and a lamb burger, Vada Pav and Bhel Puri.
We know your mouth is watering already, so we’ll wrap it up so you can get in line. Botiwalla is at 697 Haywood Rd., and it’s open Monday-Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. and Sunday, 11:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.
