  • It’s nearly time to fetch the lederhosen from the back of your closet because Asheville Oktoberfest is on the horizon. On Saturday, Oct. 7, make your way to Pack Square Park to sip on drinks from 20+ craft beverage makers, get your competitive juices flowing with games, and let loose to some live music.
Film
  • Settle in for a weekend of frightful flicks at Cat Fly Halloween Film Fest. Catch a screening of “Practical Magic” on Friday, Oct. 13. at 7 p.m., raising funds for Cat Fly + Binx’s Home for Black Cats.   • The island is home to the Chincoteague National Wildlife Refuge where you can find herds of wild ponies roaming the marshland and beaches. Fun fact: The ponies have been living on the island for hundreds of years. Explore the history of the herd + check out the annual Pony Swim the last Thursday in July.

Act like a local:

  • Learn: NASA’s Wallops Flight Facility Visitor Center is just a 10-minute car ride from the island. Explore hands-on exhibits about NASA’s Earth Science program and the important role the facility has had in our understanding of earth + space science since it opened in 1945.
