  • Tickets are now on sale for Bite Me, a new food culture festival from JD Ellison & Company and partners, slated for August 14 through August 18. See what’s in store from keynote speakers to cooking classes to late-night events — plus, browse the chef lineup for the first round.

  • At its Tuesday, April 23 meeting, Asheville City Council voted to reprise its contract with Chonzie, Inc. to finish the removal of Vance Monument, which began in 2021 but was halted by a lawsuit arguing breach of contract. The base is expected to be removed by July. (Asheville Citizen-Times)
Biz
  • Michel Baudouin, owner of the French comfort food spot Bouchon, announced he’s looking to sell the restaurant, sharing in a press release that while he’s not ready to retire, “my priorities have altered.” Bouchon’s sister restaurant RendezVous will remain open and welcome Bouchon’s employees.
Civic
  • Also at its Tuesday, April 23 meeting, Asheville City Council approved issuing $4.6 million for five affordable housing projects, which would add 197 units. One of the projects, Star Point Apartments, comes from the local nonprofit Mountain Housing Opportunities and contributes 60 units. (WLOS)

  • The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority approved nearly $10 million in funding through the Legacy Investment from Tourism (LIFT) Fund’s inaugural cycle. Twelve projects received funding, including public recreation and conservation for the Ferry Road development and construction of Blue Note Junction from Hood Huggers International. (Mountain Xpress)
