Chimney Rock is opening for one day only for a community-wide holiday celebration. The village party is on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Community members have been working diligently on recovery in the area, and they are excited to show how far they’ve come, according to the Facebook post.

The City of Asheville has announced the launch of the new Asheville Recovers Engagement Hub. You can explore the online tool to get recovery progress updates, participate in an interactive Q+A forum, and get email alerts on topics of interest.
Cause
MANNA FoodBank, Second Harvest Food Bank, and Food Lion are partnering this holiday season to provide meal supplies to 1,500 families in Asheville. The three groups will be located at WNC Agriculture Center (gate 1) on Wednesday, Dec. 18 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Mabel Bakery is now open at 175 Weaverville Rd., Ste. V in Woodfin. Owner and head baker Sarah Easterling said the shop was inspired by her grandmother, whom she worked with in the kitchen at a young age. (Asheville Citizen-Times)

Two Helene Disaster Recovery Centers in NC will permanently close at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 14, according to a release from FEMA. The two centers are in Macon County and Swain County. Use the DRC locator tool to find the four centers in Buncombe County. (WLOS)

I won’t lie — I am a terrible baker. I was taught to measure with my heart: if a little is good, more is better. And that approach doesn’t translate to baking.
