Hiawassee Street between Rankin and North Lexington Avenues has fully reopened to traffic. The section has been closed to complete stormwater repairs, but more closures are expected in winter 2026 for permanent stormwater construction.

Hey, sports fans. In case it’s not already on your radar — the SoCon Basketball Championships kick off at Harrah’s Cherokee Center - Asheville this Thursday, March 6, and runs through Monday, March 10.

This annual college basketball tournament features men’s and women’s teams in a bracketed playoff from the Southern Conference. Over five days, 10 teams will compete for the championship title and entry to the NCAA Tournament — with most games airing on the ESPN network.

The women’s tournament is up first, with games from Thursday, March 6, to Friday, March 7. The championship takes place Sunday, March 9. The men’s tournament starts a day later, with matches running from Friday, March 7 to Monday, March 10.

Don’t have tickets yet? There’s still time. Tickets are available starting at $24.70 for general admission. Pro tip: Fill out brackets for the women’s and men’s teams ahead of time for a little friendly competition.

Psst... the SoCon Wrestling Championship will be happening at Kimmel Arena at the same time.
