News Notes

Closed

Asheville Parks and Recreation has closed the public pool at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center until further notice for safety reasons due to safety concerns, citing an “increase in extreme behavior issues” and an incident involving a firearm. It was the only city-run pool open this summer, but five Buncombe County pools remain open.

Environment

The NC Forest Service’s Nursery Program produces more than 10 million native and genetically improved tree seedlings each year — and you can get your hands on some. The NCFS’ annual tree seedling sale is underway, but act fast, because inventory goes quickly.
