Highland Brewing | Texas Margarita | Made with grapefruit and chili salt

Tall John’s | Clear Eyes, Full Eyes | Tequila, Mazzura, watermelon, lime, and bitters

News Notes

Real Estate

It’s not smoke and mirrors — the famed Mirror Hotel in Marshall is up for sale. Listed for $4.4 million, the next owner of the property will scoop up 50 acres, the six existing cabins, and the option to build 12 more. But if you plan to stay in one of the “invisible” cabins, the sale won’t affect your stay. (Asheville Citizen-Times)

Arts

Andrew Montrie, the artist behind Asheville Art in the Park, is collaborating with the city to create a space for art vendors in the empty lot across from Harrah’s Cherokee Center, similar to the markets held there for Billy Strings’ run of shows. The program begins Saturday, Aug. 23. (WLOS)

Civic

Buncombe County Commissioners awarded a $2 million contract to expand the county landfill in Alexander by 4.7 acres. Construction is slated to begin in August and last about seven months — the expanded area is expected to be used for five to six years before reaching capacity.

Eat

Leo’s House of Thirst is bringing some Italian flair to Appalachia with a special Aperitivo hour. From 4 to 5 p.m., Sunday-Tuesday, slurp up 50% off oysters and enjoy pre-dinner apps for 25% off. And ICYMI, the James Beard Award-nominated wine bar now serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

Shop

You can show local businesses a little extra love on your next grocery run at The Fresh Market. At every NC store (plus three SC and one TN store), there will be a “Shop Local” display filled with goodies from Helene-affected businesses, like Asheville Tea Co. and French Broad Chocolate.

Number

24. That’s how many farms are participating in Appalachian Sustainable Agriculture Project’s annual Farm Tour, beginning Saturday, Sept. 20. Grab a ticket to explore the farms (all an hour’s drive from Asheville) through guided tours, demos, and tastings, showcasing the agricultural diversity of the region.

Plan Ahead
