AVL Unpaved rolls forward

At this week’s meeting, Asheville City Council pushed the AVL Unpaved project forward, approving an agreement to allow the Asheville Unpaved Alliance to oversee the design and construction of two new trails.
The initiative led by led by Asheville on Bikes, Pisgah Area SORBA, and Connect Buncombe will construct natural-surface, multi-use trails in both West and East Asheville, accessible via greenway, sidewalks, bike lanes, and other trailheads.
What’s next?
The Asheville Unpaved Alliance will issue a request for proposals, and once a builder is chosen, the construction phase will begin. An exact timeline is contingent on finding the right builder and navigating construction logistics, but Asheville on Bikes Executive Director Mike Sule told AVLtoday he hopes to see the project completed by the end of 2026.
If you want to celebrate the latest milestone, roll out to the Summer Cycle on Saturday, Aug. 23.
Post of the Day
Maybe it’s a liiiiittle early to start thinking about the winter ski season, but this announcement from Hatley Pointe got us excited.
Since rounding out its first season in March, the resort has been working on prepping several new slopes for the upcoming season, in addition to opening a 32-feature terrain park. The team also announced that they’ll be expanding snowmaking operations to open sooner and stay open longer. Season passes will go on sale in early fall.
If wheels are more your thing, the resort is also working on a mountain bike park, slated for a spring 2026 opening.
The fun doesn’t have to end here. After reading the newsletter, head over to our games page. Games refresh with new challenges every day at 6 a.m. from crossword puzzle to Sudoku to themed word search.
While I’m not sure where you can buy the world-famous Labubus in Asheville (please let me know if you do), I do know that you can buy the equally viral and arguably way more adorable Sonny Angel action figures at L.O.F.T. of Asheville downtown.
