Zella’s Deli reopens today at a new location on Tunnel Road, next to Play It Again Sports. The shop is serving up NY-inspired sandwiches Monday-Saturday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Festival
The Asheville Greek Festival will return to Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church in Montford on Friday, Sept. 26 and Saturday, Sept. 27. The annual celebration is full of authentic food, live music, folk dancing, and vendors. Admission is $12 for adults, but kids five and under get in free.
Development
It’s official. Costco has formally applied for conditional zoning permitting to build a 160,940-sqft store in Enka Commerce Park. The application also includes a 32-pump fueling station and a tire center. The development will be reviewed by the Technical Review Committee on Monday, October 6. It will then be presented to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the City Council.
Environment
The Asheville Downtown Association welcomes city planning expert and content creator Jon Jon Wesolowski, aka The Happy Urbanist, to Fitz and The Wolfe for a talk on Tuesday, Sept. 16. Titled “Move Fast and Fix Things: Placemaking Innovation Through Quick and Uncompromising Design,” the event highlights quick, low-cost projects that transform public spaces. Register to attend.
Plan Ahead
Show your support for BPR (and hear some iconic NPR theme music) at its upcoming Be the Lifeline benefit concert on Sunday, Sept. 28. Composer and Asheville local BJ Leiderman will take the Highland Brewing stage for an afternoon of music. Your $25 ticket includes a drink and helps keep public radio alive in WNC.
Civic
The city has established four Helene Recovery Boards — Housing, Economy, People & Environment, and Infrastructure — to support City Council in policy making in the wake of the storm. Applications are open for the at-large seats on the boards, due by Sunday, Sept. 28. Appointments will be considered at the Tuesday, Oct. 14 City Council meeting.

School is back in session. Bee school, that is. Registration for the Buncombe County Beekeepers Club’s two-day interactive course is now open. Head to the Warren Wilson College campus Nov. 8-9 to learn the basics of beekeeping and participate in hands-on sessions, lectures, demos, raffles and giveaways.
