Basilica of St. Lawrence | Photo by @overasheville
This Friday, Oct. 17, the Basilica of Saint Lawrence is inviting the public to celebrate the start of the church’s multi-million dollar, multi-phase restoration project. During phase one, priority repairs will begin, including restoration of the Oculus and replacement of the copper dome roof and gutters.
The 1 p.m. ceremony will conclude with a performance of Guastavino’s “Sanctus and Hosanna.” If the name Guastavino sounds familiar, it’s probably not for his composing, but for the fact that he is the architect of the Basilica of Saint Lawrence.
