Asheville’s newest fabric shop is opening this Thursday, Oct. 23 at 1550 Hendersonville Rd. — and its the first in the city dedicated entirely to garment textiles. For all you “Project Runway” fans, think of it like Asheville’s version of Mood.
Sewing Studio Fabrics is the latest retail endeavor from Tara Nyanga, founder of the clothing alteration biz Sugarcane Studios (which is upstairs from the new fabric shop). You can attend the grand opening celebration this Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. to explore fabrics, patterns, and tools.
It’s totally alright if you’re not cut from the same cloth as the experts. Nyanga said Sewing Studio Fabrics will be here for professionals and hobbyists alike, with plans to host sewing classes and workshops in the future.

Demolition of Asheville Regional Airport’s South Concourse will begin this week — it’s the beginning of phase two of the $400 expansion plan. It comes after the opening of new ticket lobby, TSA checkpoint, and North Concourse opened in late June. Arriving passengers can expect some changes navigating the airport as construction continues.
