Outdoors
Conserving Carolina has protected nearly 500 acres of land north of Lake Lure. It’s the last major piece of the puzzle to protect a 2,669-acre tract of wilderness near Chimney Rock State Park. Once a failed upscale development, the new purchase will protect 38+ miles of streams while expanding trails.
Seasonal
Don’t forget to set your clocks back — Daylight Saving Time ended at 2 a.m. on yesterday, Nov. 2, ushering in brighter mornings and earlier sunsets. Need help adjusting to the change? Enjoying a sun-soaked morning at a local coffee shop should do the trick.
Pets
Did you know that black cats are less likely to be adopted? Now Halloween is here/gone, we want to make sure that the Land of the Sky’s adoptable inky felines get the love they deserve all year round. Sweet Pea, Pico, Nori, and Sesame are all awaiting adoption at Binx’s Home for Black Cats. (PubMed Central)

Creativity + connection at RADfest
More than 500 artists are now working in reopened studios. | Photo via RADA
This weekend, the River Arts District will come alive for the second RADfest. Saturday, Nov. 8 and Sunday, Nov. 9, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the area will be filled with live music, DJs, food trucks, and art demos as people explore open galleries.
Last year, RADfest 1.0 served as the district’s “soft opening,” with just a handful of studios open and many displaced artists selling work from tents in the Pine Gate Renewables parking lot. The turnout was immense, with people from across the region coming to support Asheville’s creative soul.
This year, there’s a renewed sense of resilience with more than 500 artists now working in reopened studios and 100+ still displaced artists at the outdoor art market — check out the map of open spots.
