Google’s 2025 Year in Search is out, and its local search function provides an interesting peek into our city’s queries. It appears Asheville had a particular interest in Taylor Swift’s song “Wood” and the meaning of “67.” We’re still trying to figure out the meaning ourselves.

Show off your creativity with a homemade lantern. | Photo via Light The Night AVL

Light the Night AVL is making a return on Saturday, Dec. 20 for a winter solstice lantern walk through the RAD. The event was created by local artist Liberty Hanson-Wild last year after Helene.

“Light the Night began from a desire to bring light and hope to our community during a challenging time,” says Hanson-Wild. “This walk invites us to pause, gather in solidarity, and celebrate the joy, creativity, and light that shine so brightly in this community.”

Bring your lanterns to a pre-walk gathering at Marquee at 5 p.m. before setting off down Foundy Street and down the greenway — the walk with end with a community song and the opportunity to write messages on ribbons, which will become part of an art installation honoring Asheville’s inner strength and ingenuity.
