🧹 It’s a clean sweep
Give your gently used items new life. | Photo by AVLtoday
You’ve swept, scrubbed, scoured, sorted, dusted, decluttered, disinfected, and washed. Now, the hard part: What to do with it all? Here are a few places where you can donate items, help locals in need, and support community causes.
For the stuff in the back of the closet
If your drawers are filled with solo socks or other clothing in no condition to be donated, Buncombe County’s textile recycling program can give them new life — drop off clean items in the bins at the landfill and transfer station.
For the furniture gathering dust
Send big items like couches, dressers + working appliances (even your car) to the Asheville Habitat for Humanity ReStore or schedule a pick-up if you can’t transport items yourself. If you think your item may be especially valuable, get it appraised by Brunk Auctions during its Friday, March 20 Valuation Day fundraiser for the nonprofit.

Seasonal
What’s that sound? Hummingbirds are returning to Asheville, including the red-throated hummingbird. The migratory species is expected to pass through our area April 1-15 as they venture north for the warmer months. See what other birds you can expect to spot. (AccuWeather)
Opening
The Swan has found a nest. You may know Kristen Oxtoby from her fabulous statement earring brand These Hollow Hills, and now she’s branching out to open The Swan, a hybrid plant shop, gathering space, and spritz bar in Black Mountain. Keep up with the journey on IG.
Learn
Learn the physics of ghost riding the whip with the Asheville Museum of Science. For the opening of its “Gear Up: The Science of Bikes” exhibit, the museum is hosting an adults-only night this Thursday, March 19 with hands-on science, craft beer, a DJ set, and appearances from local cycling groups.
Biz
Save energy and money. Asheville and Buncombe County have launched NC C-PACE, a program helping commercial property owners finance energy, water, and resiliency upgrades. A free info session is set for Wednesday, March 18.
