Whether it’s a long, steep climb that pushes you to your limits or a peaceful path meandering along a creek, there’s a hiking trail out there for everyone. At least that’s the belief of the American Hiking Society.

The group established National Trails Day to help preserve our nation’s hiking trails through environmental stewardship and community education.

This Saturday, June 7, marks the 33rd Annual National Trails Day, and we’ve rounded up a list of ways to celebrate in Asheville.

Don’t know your favorite trail yet? Our hiking guide is a great place to get started.

Land Trust Day

Feeling inspired? Saturday, June 7, also marks National Land Trust Day, coinciding with National Trails Day to celebrate both outdoor recreation and environmental conservation efforts.

The Southern Appalachian Highlands Conservancy is hosting a closet clean out sale to raise money while getting rid of some old merchandise. Head to their headquaters to score discounted t-shirts, hoodies, hats, and more.

While you’re in a shopping mood, you can then pop over to Mast General Store, where 20% of the day’s sales will be donated to SAHC. The environmental nonprofit will also have a table where you can sign up to volunteer.
