Slip into your spandex because the inaugural Beer City Comic Con is fast approaching for a weekend of panel discussions, scintillating seminars, and out-of-this-world artwork. The convention is taking over Harrah’s Cherokee Center - Asheville from Saturday, Sept. 30 to Sunday, Oct. 1.

If you love all things comics, sci-fi, art, and pop culture, here’s a sneak peek of what’s to come:

💭 Things to know

  • Tickets are available for individual days or the whole weekend, ranging from $30 to $50.
  • Transform into your favorite character for the cosplay contest (but read the rules before registering online or in person).
  • It wouldn’t be a comic con in the Beer City without local brews — Green Man Brewing’s Ninkasi’s Nectar, an IPA named after the convention’s mascot, will be on tap.
  • You’ll have the chance to meet celebs like Laura Banks of “Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan” and Pokémon + Yu-Gi-Oh! voice actor Megan Hollingshead — find the full list of guests.

Make the city your playground with some brand new activities. | Photo via @andre.daugherty.photo
Is there a special adventure or unique-to-Asheville activity that you’ve been eager to try out but haven’t gotten around to yet?

Maybe you’ve been wanting to take to the skies with a helicopter tour of Asheville, breeze through the trees on a zipline, or practice your gardening or art skills at a local class — no matter the activity, sometimes it can be a bit intimidating to try new things without knowing what’s in store.

That’s why we’re asking our readers to share what local activity they want to try out the most. Let us know, then we’ll try it out for ourselves and report back.
Answered

Yesterday we asked, “What best nature practices do you live by?” and here’s what you said:

“Leave it be.” - Michelle D.

“Recycle, restore, reuse.” - Marla W.

“Never, never, never hike with your music on speaker. No one is in nature to hear your tunes. If you really must listen to music instead of the peaceful sounds of nature, always use your earbuds.” - Hailey M.

“Leave No Trace. Pack it In...Pack it Out. Respect the natural sounds of nature.” - B. LedBetter

“Pick up garbage, no matter how small, on trails/paths as we see them. Made children do it, now training grandchildren.” - Susan D.

“We do not put any pesticides on our lawn or garden ever.” - J. Horsman

“Pick up litter, don’t kill bugs or anything.” - K. Davis
