“Underconsumption core.” “Deinfluencing.” You might have seen these trends arise on social media lately, encouraging more mindful purchasing practices. Inspired by this sustainability movement, we’ve gathered a few spots to swap and trade goods so you can still score some new-to-you items while shopping green and supporting local.
AVL Clothing Swap, various locations
Tickets for the Saturday, Sept. 7 swap at The Regeneration Station are live — grab a ticket before dropping off your clean clothing and shoes (that are in good condition, of course).
Reciprocity, 732 Haywood Rd.
Since 2009, the store has been stocking designer denim, boho threads, boots, and more. Explore brands like Free People, Madewell, and Anthropologie — or bring in your in-season items to sell or trade for in-store credit.
rEvolve Mercantile, 697 Haywood Rd.
Say goodbye to fast fashion here — then say hello to trendy + timeless vintage and secondhand goods for all genders. Right now, walk-in trades are accepted Tuesday-Thursday from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. or you can book an appointment to sell.
EMOTE, 444 Haywood Rd.
Every month, the shop hosts a clothing swap so you can share your clean, unwanted items and revamp your closet with clothing, shoes, and accessories. Plus, you can hit up the sewing station on Saturdays to customize items from home or from the shop with patches and bows.

Our mouths were already watering when Chef Luis Martinez announced two weeks ago that he was preparing to open Taqueria Rosita. Now, we’re getting ravenous with the news that the taqueria will be housed inside The Odd, with limited service on Thursday, Aug. 29 and Friday, Aug. 30 from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Martinez, who is also the founder of Tequio Foods, a fair trade initiative importing ancestral corn and beans from Indigenous farmers, said the new spot is born out of “pure corn love,” paying homage to his home of Oaxaca, Mexico. In an interview with Eater Carolinas, the chef shared that the taqueria will use heirloom corn along with local ingredients to create tlayudas, memelitas, and tacos.
Starting Wednesday, Sept. 4, Taqueria Rosita will be open Wednesday-Friday, 4-11 p.m.
