News Notes

Open

Master BBQ is back to serving delicious Filipino food, now at Outsider Brewing. The food truck held a grand reopening on Saturday to celebrate their return, and will operate Thursday-Sunday, 3-7 p.m.

Drink

Hillman Beer’s Biltmore Village taproom is back in action and serving pints seven days a week after sustaining significant damage due to Helene. The announcement post on Instagram also noted that kitchen staff is expected to return to prepare a limited menu of offerings. The brewery’s Old Fort taproom opened in late October.

Watch

MJ Lenderman, an Asheville-born musician, was recently interviewed on World Cafe. The 20+ minute interview features three segments + live performances by Lenderman, including “Manning Fireworks” and “On My Knees.” (NPR)

Brian Regan, a popular comedian known for his observational and sarcastic humor, will perform a benefit show at the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Wednesday, Jan. 8. Tickets are on sale now, starting at $49, and net proceeds will go to the Always Asheville Fund.

Civic

Asheville City Council approved an additional $600,000+ in rental assistance for Hurricane Helene relief during a meeting last week. This brings the rental assistance total to $1.6+ million, however funds have yet to be distributed. (Asheville Citizen-Times)

Weather

In case you missed it, a large meteor flew by Asheville late on Thursday night last week. Reddit user “Yellow_Baron” captured the moment via a dash camera and shared it to Asheville’s subreddit, giving everyone a chance to see it soar over Biltmore Park.

Happy Monday, AVL. I love basketball of any kind so I’ve been digging into the UNC Asheville teams. I found this fun history article about the 2002-03 men’s team, which is most noteworthy for making it to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in university history.
