Civic

The City of Asheville estimates that it lost $17 million-$18 million in revenue during this fiscal year from Helene’s impacts on the city. Major contributors to this loss are water resource funding and parking fees, but the city continues to look into federal resources to help supplement this deficit. (Asheville Citizen-Times)

Traffic

Expect delays while traveling downtown on Patton Avenue later this week. Traffic will be reduced to one lane on Friday, Jan. 10 for daytime work on the Carter-Ann-Patton stormwater project. Construction will continue overnight on Monday, Jan. 13 into the following morning. A detour route is in place.

Novant Health’s new plastic + reconstructive surgery office is now open in Biltmore Park and is seeing patients. The location aims to help customers feel more confident with services ranging from scar revision and wound care to post-weight loss procedures.

Holiday

Asheville Mardi Gras is getting ready to come marching down South Slope on Sunday, March 2 — two days before the holiday. This year’s parade will feature an Animalia theme that’s intentionally open to interpretation so it can include all types of animals. (Asheville Citizen-Times)
