A statewide burn ban remains in effect until further notice as wildfires break out across WNC. Asheville’s historic Municipal Golf Course will be rebuilt. The city is seeking designers and engineers to help restore the course’s front nine holes, which were severely damaged during Helene. The course is considered one of the last affordable public fee courses in the city. (Asheville Citizen-Times)
Traffic
The I-40 Interchange project in Black Mountain faces further delays after NCDOT officials found the Blue Ridge Road bridge and its surrounding topography were “completely destroyed” by Helene. Crews must complete new land surveys and replace the bridge before the project, which has spent 20 years in development, moves forward. (Black Mountain News)

The Tourists and the Greenville Drive are teaming up to raise money for hurricane relief in the “Ville vs. Ville” series. During select games this season, players from both teams will wear commemorative rivalry jerseys that will later be auctioned and all proceeds will go toward relief efforts. The Big Crafty will return to Harrah’s Cherokee Center, Asheville, from Saturday, July 12, through Sunday, July 13. The vendor application deadline for artists interested in showcasing their work is this Sunday, March 30.

The hotel in the historic Old Marshall Jail, which was devastated by flood damage, is welcoming guests back for the first time in six months. The hotel announced it will start accepting bookings on April 1 — no joke.

We’ve got a new comfort show in the queue. “The Rotating Chef” highlights the culture and community impact of chefs across the Carolinas, including Asheville.
Shaniqua Simuel, a community advocate and public health nutrition and cooking educator here in Asheville, joins the show’s host, Caleb Owolab, throughout season one.
You can watch the first two episodes this Friday, March 28 at 4 p.m. during a special screening event at the YMI Cultural Center.
