On your next flight out of the Asheville Regional Airport, you’ll check your bags at the sleek new ticketing lobby. Consider this the appetizer to the full grand opening of the new North Concourse on Wednesday, June 25.

In the very early hours of this morning, the doors of the new ticket lobby opened to travelers. It’s larger than its original counterpart, but it doesn’t stop there — it’ll double in size by the time the airport’s expansion project is expected to be finished in 2027.

The outdoors-inspired design isn’t the only update to the ticketing lobby — technological advancements were also made behind the scenes to improve the baggage system.

For a few weeks until the North Concourse fully opens, after travelers visit the ticket lobby, they’ll return to the “legacy” terminal to go through the existing TSA screening area, passing by the original ticketing lobby, which will temporarily be used for rental car bookings.
The major milestone just ahead

What’s in a name?

Have you ever thought to yourself, hey, that would be a good name for (fill in the blank)? Well, the Pisgah Conservancy is giving the public a chance to submit their ideas to name the new 20-mile loop connecting Pisgah National Forest, Bracken Preserve, and the City of Brevard.

The new loop links Stony Knob Trail, Joel Branch Road, Horse Cove Road, Estatoe Trail, Bracken Mountain Trail, the Brevard Greenway, and shops + restaurants in downtown Brevard.

The new name will be displayed on signage throughout the loop, so if your name is chosen, you’ll get to see it proudly direct you to a post-hike brew or ice cream cone.

Submit your suggestions online until Tuesday, July 15. The winning name will be announced later this summer.

Need some ideas to get started? Perhaps something to honor the local fauna.
