Last week, the city released the final report of the Downtown Patton Avenue Corridor Feasibility Study.

The study examines Patton Avenue from Jeff Bowen Bridge east to Pack Square, assessing how the corridor can be transformed into a safer multimodal, pedestrian-friendly gateway to downtown. It also aims to improve connectivity with adjacent neighborhoods, an effort that’s being coordinated with plans for the I-26 Connector Project.

Since the fall of 2023, public input has shaped the study, prompting six overarching recommendations:

Multimodal improvements
One of the biggest buzzwords of the report is “roundabout.” Recommended roundabouts at the intersection of Patton Avenue with Clingman Avenue and Hilliard Avenue would aim to slow traffic speeds, allow for public art and landscaping, as well as improve walkability.

A potential extension of Hilliard Avenue to Patton Avenue was also studied. Additional recommendations include a road diet and dedicated bike lanes to improve rider safety.
What about the cost?

Napoleon, give me some of your tots

It’s time to break out the “Vote for Pedro” T-shirt that’s been collecting dust in the back of your closet because “Napoleon Dynamite Live!” is headed to town this winter. The actors of the cult-favorite indie flick, Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite), Efren Ramirez (Pedro), and Jon Gries (Uncle Rico) will take the stage for a Q+A after a screening of the movie.

But it’s Napoleon Dynamite after all, so you should expect this live show to be as eccentric as the film. It’s part game show, improv comedy, and dance party, with a heavy dose of audience participation.

Fill your pockets with your own personal stash of tater tots and make your way to the Thomas Wolfe Auditorium on Sunday, Dec. 7 for the show — tickets are on sale now, starting at $59.
