Mizu’s curry ramen is the ultimate comfort food. | Photo by AVLtoday
It’s starting to feel like fall, and with a chill in the air, we’re sharing ten spots to warm up with a bowl of soup. From creamy classics to brothy bowls, there’s something cozy for every palette.
Mizu, 22 New Leicester Hwy.
The restaurant inside YZ Asian Market has some of our favorite ramen in the city — specifically the supremely savory, warm spiced curry ramen.
RendezVous, 184 New Haw Creek Rd.
The East Asheville bistro specialized in French comfort food, and the French onion soup is a shining star.
Guajiro, 2A Huntsman Pl.
The food truck outside Hi-Wire Biltmore Village dishes out hearty, flavorful Cuban comfort food, so it’s no surprise that Nana’s black bean soup and Abuela’s chicken soup will stick to your ribs.
Rosetta’s Kitchen, 68 N. Lexington Ave.
Grab a bowl of hearty, award-winning vegan chili and dress it up with vegan queso and a basket of chips. If that’s not your jam, there’s always a veggie-packed soup on the menu.
Save the date — on Monday, Nov. 3, we’ll know if any local establishments make the new MICHELIN Guide American South. Learn more about the guide and how restaurants are chosen. Bonus: The announcement will happen close by in Greenville, SC.

Thanks to a grant from the Rotary Club of Black Mountain, agriculture students of Swannanoa’s Community High School are able to put farm fresh food on the lunch table. Helene had put the farm-to-table program on pause, but now it will return with new tools and equipment. (WLOS)

The Orionid meteor shower put on a gorgeous show last week. If you didn’t see it, fear not — today we’re taking a look at Asheville’s upcoming celestial calendar so you don’t miss out on the next light show. Here are peak dates for each event:
Nov. 4-5 | Taurids Meteor Shower
This is a more minor showing, but weather allowing, you’ll be able to see it after midnight from a dark location away from city lights.
Nov. 17-18 | Leonids Meteor Shower
It’s expected to be an excellent year for this shower, producing up to 15 meteors per hour. Bonus: PARI is hosting a viewing party for the shower on Friday, Nov. 14.
Dec. 13-14 | Geminids Meteor Shower
Widely considered to be the best shower of them all, 120 multicolored meteors per hour at its peak.
