After Helene sent nearly 25-ft floodwaters through the River Arts District, Cotton Mill Studios stood gutted, but not gone. After 16 months of remediation + rebuilding, the landmark is ready welcome visitors once again.

“Built in 1887, the Cotton Mill has survived floods, fires, and more than a century of change. Her bones are strong. She’s ready for the next hundred years,” the studio shared on social media.

The rebuild was designed with an emphasis on accessibility, adding new sidewalks, ramps, and a front deck.

Once you venture inside, here’s what you’ll find inside the studios, both new and returning:
Once Guajiro settles in, Cotton Mill Studios plans to host a grand reopening celebration in the fall. In the meantime, you can still get your fill of vaca frita and tostones from its food truck at Hi-Wire’s Biltmore Village brewery.

Through its four seasonal Hard 2 Recycle events, Asheville GreenWorks diverts about 137,600 pounds of waste from the landfill per year — and you can be part of the impact this weekend.

This Saturday, Feb. 21, Asheville GreenWorks is hosting its winter Hard 2 Recycle event at Enka High School, inviting residents to come drop off items not accepted in curbside recycling, like styrofoam and electronics. You can also donate art supplies to support Remix It, Asheville’s future creative reuse center.

Check out the list to see what’s accepted and what’s not. Pro tip: Some items that Hard 2 Recycle doesn’t accept, like paint, are accepted at the Buncombe County Landfill’s monthly household hazardous waste collection events.
