It’s officially spring, and we’re ready to put the petal to the metal. From u-pick farms to flower CSAs and farm stands, here are eight local flower farms to explore.
Take your pick
Stepp’s Hillcrest Orchard
The fields are expected to open this week, and you can go ahead and buy tickets to the orchard’s Tulip Blossom Days to pick your own stems. Bonus: Head back in late summer for sunflowers and zinnias.
Flower CSAs + subscriptions
Encompass Farm
You can add a bouquet subscription to your weekly veggie box for a double dose of locally grown gems. The flower share runs from June through November.
Carolina Flowers
You can find a stunning selection of flowers at the Haywood Road shop, either OWL location, or on Saturdays at the Asheville City Market.
This morning, MANNA FoodBank will cut the ribbon on its new freezer and cooler facility at its Mills River headquarters. The new building boosts cold capacity by 233%, helping MANNA meet record demand of 200,000 monthly visits across its 300+ partner sites. Help support the cause by volunteering.
Seasonal
Flower shops and farms aren’t the only sites to see beautiful blooms. Wildflowers will soon arrive on schedule — here’s what to look for each month.
Watch
Episode three of CBS’s “America’s Culinary Cup” aired this week, tasking chefs to cook with ingredients they harvested themselves. Watch on Paramount+ to see how Asheville chef and Cúrate owner Katie Button handled the challenge.
