Seemingly everyday, pets get lost in Asheville. LostPetsAVL , a new website created by local animal welfare groups, hopes to make reuniting missing pets with owners simpler.
This new initiative emerges from a partnership between Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Asheville Humane Society, and the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance.
How does it work?
As part of the program, all animals who move through the three aforementioned organizations will be microchipped and receive an “I’m microchipped” tag that easily attaches to their collar. If a pet goes missing, the tag directs finders to LostPetsAVL.org.
What’s on the website?
The site itself offers a slew of resources for anyone who’s looking to reunite a pet with its owner. That includes:
- A step-by-step process of what to do when you find a missing pet
- Instructions on how to scan for a microchip, plus a map of microchip scanner locations
- Strategies for tracking down pet owners
- Where to report or (if necessary) drop off a missing pet
How can I register my pet?
The ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance is hosting a free microchipping event on Friday, June 30 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. To guarantee an appointment, pet owners are invited to register in advance. Walk-ins are also accepted.
