Who’s setting up shop + shutting their doors in a fast-growing city like Asheville is hard to keep up with. Here at the office, we often wonder: “What’s up with all of those businesses we announced last month?”
So we figured our readers are wondering, too. Back in December we dished on 15+ businesses that were closing, soon-to-come, or had just opened– and for our fourth round of #Openings and #Closings, we’re here with alllll the updates.

🥘 All Day Darling |📍102 Montford Ave., Montford
This old-new grub hub is set up in the former Tod’s Tasties in Montford, and is a project by Jacob Sessoms of Table and Jay Weatherly of High Five Coffee. It features an expanded kitchen, a gluten-free fryer, redesigned patio, and a production room. (We hear the lox bagel is incredible.)
🚿 Bada Bastu |📍230 Short Coxe Ave., South Slope
A Scandinavian-inspired spa with three steps: hot cold + relax. The spa includes a traditional Finnish sauna, heated benches, cold shower, cold plunge + relaxation lounge. Massages and tea are also available.
🍳 Biscuit Head South | 📍1994 Hendersonville Rd., South Asheville
Now you can “put some South in your mouth” in South Asheville– the third location in town for the popular biscuit restaurant, which features Biscuit Head’s standard jam + butter bar, plus interior murals from local artists.
🍷 Crocodile Wine |📍27 Biltmore Ave., Downtown
This new downtown wine shop features 70+ varieties of natural wine (i.e. organically farmed + made without additives or major filtration). The store is located in the basement level with an entrance just past Button Bagels. There is also a small seating area to enjoy a nice, leisurely glass before you jet.
🎨 Golden Hour Collective |📍62 S. Main St., Marshall
This new maker collective located in downtown Marshall has a lot of familiar faces: Lost Hunt Vintage, Pixie Thrift, Revelry Tintype + Kerry Burke of Heart of Gold Tattoos, just to name a few. The space will be part studio space, part event space.
🍹 Haywood Country Club |📍662 Haywood Rd., West Asheville
Housed in the former I+J building, Haywood Country Club is a welcome addition to the Haywood Rd. craft cocktail scene. Bar offerings include house cocktails, local draft options + a well-stocked spirit selection. And that patio sure is lookin’ good for summer. 👀
🍞 High Test Deli |📍134 Coxe Ave., South Slope
This classic New York-style deli offers sandwiches, subs, salads + other grab-and-go options. (Producer Ali loves their homemade ice cream sandwiches.)
🍹 The Malvern |📍1478 Patton Ave., West Asheville
The Malvern, a new spot for craft cocktails + late-night food, opened its doors quietly this past December. Their bar program emphasizes locally distilled spirits + the menu features a variety of tasty options. (We have our eye on that banh mi.)
🌿 Villagers |📍278 Haywood Rd., West Asheville
Villagers, a beloved spot for locals passionate about gardening, DIY, craft + permaculture, was scheduled to shut its doors early this year, but now a new owner has stepped up to take over.

🍻 Archetype Brewing North |📍174 Broadway St., Dowtown
Archetype Brewing is expanding from their Haywood Rd. location and plans to open a second brewpub in the space formerly occupied by Habitat Brewing on Lexington Ave., just down the street from the Moog Factory. There will be few cosmetic alterations, and an opening is planned for Mar. 7.
⛏️ Axeville Throwing Club |📍99 New Leicester Hwy., Ste. 20; West Asheville
Throw axes, drink beer. They’ll celebrate their grand opening in mid-March. And don’t worry– local “axperts” will be on hand to walk you through it.
🍻 The CANarchy Collective |📍39 N. Lexington Ave., Downtown
After extensive renovations, the CANarchy– a craft beer collective– will move into the spot that Lexington Avenue Brewery used to operate. Brewers from Oskar Blues Brewery, Cigar City Brewing, Perrin Brewing Company, Squatters Craft Beers, Wasatch Brewery, Deep Ellum Brewing Company, and Three Weavers Brewing Company will participate; there will be food as well. There is no official opening date, but be on the lookout for sometime in mid-April.
🍜 Futo Buta |📍121 Biltmore Ave., Downtown
Futo Buta is a Charlotte-based ramen spot that has snagged the building formerly occupied by Bartaco on Biltmore Ave. They have yet to announce an opening date, so in the meantime, take a look at the menu. That buta bowl? Yes.
🍹 The Golden Pineapple |📍503 Haywood Rd., West Asheville
This new bar will serve craft cocktails, tiki drinks, wine + classic dive deals (like a shot and a beer). Founders Donnie Pratt and Katey Ryder both have extensive bartending experience at spots like Cucina24, MG Road + at events for The Blind Pig. It is expected to open late March to early April.
🍜 Itto Ramen Bar + Tapas |📍630 Haywood Rd., West Asheville
Another ramen spot is set to join Ghan Shan Station on the west side of town in the old Lucky Otter building. The new restaurant will be operated by Tony Lin, who also owns Hana Japanese + Hibachi Sushi Bar downtown. Expect homemade noodles + broth, with prices between $10 and $12. They will open mid-March.
🍷 The Wine + Oyster |📍3 Biltmore Ave., Downtown
The Wine + Oyster– a seafood, wine, charcuterie + music joint– has signed a lease for the building currently occupied by Champa, which will vacate in the next two weeks.

🍻 Habitat Brewing |📍174 Broadway St., Downtown
Habitat Brewing threw its farewell party on Feb. 1 as it said goodbye to its Lexington Ave. barroom. Habitat opened in Feb. 2016.
🛍️ Hopey + Co. South |📍121 Sweeten Creek Rd., South Asheville
The Sweeten Creek Rd. location of discount grocery store Hopey + Co. will close on Mar. 30, and the remaining stock will be liquidated, according to manager Heather Hopey. The Black Mountain and downtown Hopey + Co. locations will remain open.
🍞 Lexington Corner Market |📍58 College St., Downtown
The bodega-inspired corner market shut down quietly at the end of 2018. They sold fresh sandwiches, soups, canned beer and wine, cigarettes + more. There is no word on what the space will be used for.
🍷 Nightbell |📍32 S. Lexington Ave., Downtown
Chef Katie Button announced last month that after five years of business, she would be closing Nightbell to focus on growing other parts of her biz. Nightbell’s last day was Jan. 27. There is no word on what the space will be used for moving forward.
