Many UNC Asheville alumni continue calling the ‘Ville home after moving away from 1 University Heights. Some find pretty amazing jobs here in the 828, and others start their own businesses with the skills + degrees earned during their time at UNCA – or know to cater their local businesses to the large Bulldog student population (3,800+) that call Asheville home.

With ‘Welcome Back Season’ quickly approaching (fall classes begin in just over a month, on August 19), we want to know: Which Asheville businesses are Bulldog-centric? I.e. which local bizzes offer student/staff discounts, welcome-back-to-school deals, or are alumni-owned?

Let us know by replying to this email. 🐾

To get your brain warmed up, here are four local businesses owned by former Bulldogs off the top of our heads:

  • Lucky Penny Creative: A wedding planning service in Asheville and Greenville. Alumna owner: Alex Fisher, Class of 2010.
  • Root Down: A Creole + Southern food truck. Alumnus owner: Dano + Julie Holcomb, Class of 1997 + 1998.
  • JB Media Group: An Internet marketing service. Alumnus owner: Justin Belleme, Class of 2005.
  • The Hop Ice Cream Cafe: Local ice cream shop + creamery. Alumni owners: Ashley + Greg Garrison, Class of 2005.

Now it’s your turn to help us create a list of UNC Asheville alumni-owned businesses + Bulldog-friendly businesses in town (think: specials, discounts, free things, etc.). Email us.
