Who’s setting up shop + who’s shutting their doors is information we like to dish about (see what I did there 😏). Here at the office, we often wonder “what’s up with all of those businesses we announced last month,” and the list of businesses we’re keeping tabs on keeps growing. So, we thought we would find out for you.
Here’s a list of 15+ businesses that are on their way to cutting the ribbon or have recently celebrated their grand opening.

🍯beeswax & butter | Bakery | West Asheville
beeswax & butter will be bringing French macarons with local + organic ingredients to AVL. They will make their debut at the West Asheville Tailgate Market on April 10 from 3:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. You can also follow them on Facebook + Instagram for updates as they will be selling exclusively + taking special orders at the tailgate market. Hopefully, they will have a shop by 2019.
🍺DSSØLVR | Brewery | 63 N. Lexington Ave
Former Burial Beer Co. brewers JT Murrett + Vince Tursi have partnered with Mike Semenec to open a new brewery. Expected to open in 2019, for now DSSØLVR will begin brewing operations this year. Check them out on Instagram.
🍸The Waterbird | Coffee + Cocktails | 197 Charlotte St.
The best of both worlds: coffee by day and cocktails by night. The Waterbird plans to have a soft opening in April (plus, some sneak peeks coming during Asheville Cocktail Week) before their grand opening in May and will be a neighborhood place for daytime workspace + transform into an evening gathering space. Bonus: They are now hiring.
🍳Biscuit Head South | Southern Biscuits | 1924 Hendersonville Rd.
Joining its sister stores in West AVL + Biltmore Ave., Biscuit Head is bringing its love of Cat Head Biscuits to South AVL. Keep tabs on their progress on Instagram + Facebook.
🍎Urban Orchard | Brewery | 24 Buxton Ave.
Urban Orchard is expanding the cider love to South Slope. Formally the home of ENO (Eagles Nest Outfitters) the 17,500-square-foot building will become the second home for Urban Orchard this July.
🥢WakuWaku Eatery | Japanese | 674 Merrimon Ave. Suite 100
Coming this spring (date is TBA) a new hotspot for Japanese homestyle foods, WakuWaku, will make its way to Asheville. Bonus: They are now hiring.
🍞Button and Company Bagel Shop | Bagel Bakery | 32 S Lexington Ave.
You may have noticed this address is the same as Nightbell, and you are right. Chef Katie Button has made plans to turn the ground-level restaurant space into a bagel shop. Stay tuned for dates.
🍦Ben & Jerry’s | Ice Cream | 19 Haywood St.
Everyone’s favorite ice cream is making its way to downtown. With plans to open in May, Ben & Jerry’s will have a Scoop Shop between Urban Outfitters + AdLib.
🍻The Asheville Club | Taproom | 20 Haywood St.
You’ve probably been wondering what is to come at the former location of Kim’s Wig Center. Still a work in progress, a craft-beer taproom (date of the opening is TBA) will take its place. The Asheville Club takes it name since it is located in the Miles Building which was once a men’s club that started in 1901 (but don’t worry, everyone is welcomed at the taproom).

Chef Tom Kern moved BadHappy Poutine moved from Chicago to his hometown in AVL. As Asheville’s first Poutine shop, you can think of it as fast food with a classy spin.

☕10th Muse Coffee | Coffee Shop | 8 London Rd.
This coffee shop is located on the edge of Biltmore Village and 10th Muse is a go-to for some unique latte flavor combinations. I tried The Force Latte (cookie butter, Nutella + hazelnut) it was like heaven in my mouth.
🍺The Barrel House | Pub | 1459 Merrimon Ave.
Opened from 4 p.m. until 2 a.m. The Barrel House is a new neighborhood pub + music venue spot that serves burgers and breakfast all day.
🍷District Wine Bar | Bar | 37 Paynes Way Suite 009
Located near the Wedge in RAD, District Wine Bar serves an array of unique wines + doubles as a place that highlights local artists.
🥗The Savory Way | Cafe | 1550 Hendersonville Rd.
Formerly found in at the edge of Pisgah National Forest + as the main food operation for the N.C. Arboretum, The Savory Way is a perfect stop for soups, sandwiches + salads.
☕Fractals | Coffee Shop | 547 Haywood Rd.
Fractals is taking the name as “coffee with a twist”. This West AVL cafe focuses on providing the community with a place to work, great coffee + sci-fi games.
🥤Clean Juice | Smoothie Bar | 28 Schenck Pkwy Suite 160
With a menu full of smoothies, smoothie bowls, fresh juices + small bites, Clean Juice is the perfect place when shopping in Biltmore Park Town Square.
🍷Rustic Grape Wine Bar | Bar | 14 Aston St.
Along with a laid-back atmosphere, Rustic Grape Wine Bar offers an assortment of small production wines, farmstead cheeses, meats, breads + artisan sweets.
🍔Clyde’s Burger Shop | Burgers | 408 Old Country Home Road
The former Eddie’s Dog House (in the Exxon station off New Leicester Hwy) is now housing Clyde’s Burger Shop. Each entree, drink + side combination is about $10.
