With so much going on (you know, like being in the middle of a global pandemic and binging the new Unsolved Mysteries reboot), we realized there were some things that we hadn’t gotten around to telling y’all about. It’s been a hot second since we looked at the businesses that have recently opened their doors or shut down.

Unfortunately, the pandemic has caused many businesses to close. Retail, restaurants + music venues are among the businesses that have been hit especially hard during this time. We’ve compiled a list of bizzes that have closed recently, including old favorites like The Mothlight, Addissae + more. We’ve also highlighted some new spots, as well as some businesses that are coming soon.

🇪🇹 Addissae, 48 Commerce St.

Ethiopian food with vegan + gluten-free options.

🐟 Bonefish Grill, 105 C River Hills Rd.

National seafood chain.

🍔 Burgerworx, 1378 Hendersonville Rd.

Customizable burgers + hot dogs.

🥃 Calypso, 18 N Lexington Ave.

St. Lucian cuisine + rum bar. The owner closed in the winter and then decided to close for good due to COVID-19. Protip: Table will soon take up residence here.

🖼 Eco Depot, 408 Depot St.

Environmental themed gallery/gift shop filled with the work of over 60 local artists.

🍔 Fuddruckers, 130 Charlotte St.

National burger + milkshake chain.

🍜 Futo Buta, 121 Biltmore Ave.

Charlotte-based ramen shop.

🎶 Mothlight, 701 Haywood Rd.

Music venue + neighborhood bar. Check out our article for some of our favorite memories of the Mothlight.

🍽 Native Kitchen, 204 Whitson Ave., Swannanoa

Kitchen + social pub that offered patio and backyard seating complete with a garden.

🥗 Rezaz, 28 Hendersonville Rd.

Owners are focusing on Baba Nahm (1 Page Ave.), which also serves Middle Eastern food + is takeout only.

🥪 Rise Above Deli, 25 Sweeten Creek Rd.

Deli inside of Hillman Beer is now owned by Hillman. Fairview bakery location will remain open.

🍷Rustic Grape, 14 Aston St.

Wine + cheese bar that focused on smaller productions and family-run vineyards.

🕯️Sensibilities Day Spa, 59 Haywood St.

Aug. 15 will be the last day of business for the spa’s downtown location. The South Asheville location at the Hilton in Biltmore Park will remain in operation.

🕉️ Studio Zahiya, 90 N. Lexington Ave.

The dance studio has fully pivoted to online classes and do not plan to reopen the in-person studio at this time.

🐶 Three Dog Bakery, 21 Battery Park Ave.

A fully functioning bakery for dogs + sold gifts for both dogs and cats.

🌱 Villagers, 278 Haywood Rd.

The good news is that this urban homesteader supply store is not closing, they’re only taking a pause to regroup + restock their online store. Follow them on social media for updates.

💥 ZaPow Gallery, 150 Coxe Ave.

The brick and mortar retail art gallery closed its doors July 11.

🥪 Centreville Luncheonette, 204 Weaverville Rd.

Newly opened sandwich shop from the former owner of 828 Pizza.

🥡 Earth Fare, 66 Westgate Pkwy.

Asheville’s OG health food store reopened its doors in the Westgate Shopping Center June 22.

🐔 El Gallo, 48 College St.

New monthly pop-up focusing on tacos + seasonally driven eats from Chefs Jacob Sessoms of Table, The Imperial Life + All Day Darling and Luis Martinez of Taco Map Avl.

🍽 Fork Lore, 43 Town Square Blvd.

Rebranding of Roux with new concept + menu that features Southern comfort food.

🇺🇸 Iconic Kitchen, 63 Southside Ave.

Newly opened in an old gas + service station. Serving iconic meals from across the country.

🍜 Itto Ramen, 3 Biltmore Ave.

A second location of the West Asheville ramen shop opened earlier this month.

🥧 New Stock

A new online meal delivery/pickup service from Ashley Capps, former pastry chef for Buxton Hall BBQ and a 2019 semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation’s Outstanding Pastry Chef award.

Celebrating all things seafood, this spot from Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian’s owner Eric Scheffer and Jim Diaz opens July 10 in the former Gan Shan Station on Charlotte St.

🍔 Little Pearl, 15 Peaks Center Ln.

Burgers, beer + raw bar coming soon.

🐾 Wagbar, 320 Merrimon Ave., Weaverville

An off-leash dog park with a walk up bar coming this summer to Weaverville.
