THe N.C. Arboretum Winter Lights. Provided.

In Asheville, one annual event kicks off the holiday season, and that event is here. The North Carolina Arboretum Winter Lights opens today and runs until Dec. 31 from 6 – 10 p.m. nightly. With more than half a million glowing lights in dozens of trees and landscapes, the event includes a 50-foot animated tree + a lighted quilt garden, plus new “fire and ice” displays. With kids programming and treats for parents like wine and beer (along with hot cocoa, s’mores, and more), it’s the ultimate way to kick off the festive season. 🎄

Winter Lights is a homegrown event, and tickets are discounted every Tuesday (except Christmas) + during a discount week November 26 – 29 in order to celebrate the local community. 👏
