Asheville Municipal Golf Course , 226 Fairway Dr. | An original design of turn-of-the-century Scottish professional golfer Donald Ross (whose name you’ll see many times in this guide), the recently renovated course has pass options for city residents and nonresidents as well as a pro shop and PGA staff available for lessons.
Omni Grove Park Inn Golf Course , 290 Macon Ave. | No need to be a hotel guest to enjoy a scenic game. Another Donald Ross design, the historic green has received accolades from Conde Nast Traveler, the North Carolina Golf Panel, and Golfweek Magazine.
Reems Creek Golf Club , 36 Pink Fox Cove Rd., Weaverville | Get transported to the Scottish Highlands without leaving the Blue Ridge Mountains. The links was constructed by Hawtree & Sons, a renowned British firm, and offers beautiful views while you play — plus pickleball + a course-adjacent restaurant.
Black Mountain Golf Course , 17 Ross Dr., Black Mountain | Established in 1929, the course is home to a famous 747-yard, par six 17th hole — which was once the longest hole in the world. Bonus: Three guesses which Scottish golfer designed the front nine.
Broadmoor Golf Links , 101 French Broad Ln., Fletcher | Just a stone’s throw away from the Asheville Regional Airport, this championship golf course was built in 1993 by architect Karl Litten, who was named one of the Fab Four by the PGA of America. Once you finish the 7,000-yard course, take a trip to the Club House for dining + shopping.
Chestnut Mountain Golf Club , 22 Vista Falls Rd., Mills River | Formerly the High Vista Golf Club, this course follows the flow of the land with plenty of beautiful flora and foliage, ponds, hills, and views. Gather friends, play a solitary game, or become a member to join a weekly member group or the spring league.
Salt Face Mule lets you try your hand at putt-putt after a pint.

Just puttin’ around
Salt Face Mule Brewing Co. , 450 Weaverville Hwy. | After you’ve had a pint of the brewery’s craft beer and some creative pub grub, put in an order for a putter. Then step outside for 18 or 36 holes of mini golf on the sunny green.
Tropical Gardens Mini Golf , 956 Patton Ave. | Bring the whole family for a wild mini golf adventure in West Asheville — complete with waterfalls, volcanoes, and a cast of entirely stationary flamingos, elephants, zebras, and giraffes.
Lakeview Putt & Play , 2245 Hendersonville Rd., Arden | This one-acre course on the Lake Julian waterfront has waterfalls, streams, jump shots, keyhole drops, and the longest hole in WNC (at just over 100 ft). Once you’ve played through, grab ice cream from The Hop and try your hand at laser tag or VR games.

Biltmore Forest Country Club , 31 Stuyvesant Rd. | This historic, invitation-only club features a well-appointed clubhouse with a fitness center, restaurant, and shop — not to mention an elegant green designed by the king of WNC golf course design himself, Donald Ross. Contact a current member for membership details.
Country Club of Asheville , 170 Windsor Rd. | You’re might be tired of hearing Donald Ross’ name, but listen — he did design beautiful courses. This one, built in 1928, is another Ross original and has sweeping views of the mountains and downtown Asheville, as well as a few delightfully strenuous shots. Membership is requested online.
Cummings Cove Golf & Country Club , 943 Lakeledge Ct., Hendersonville | Even if you aren’t a resident of the community, you can still purchase a golf membership (and higher tiers for other facility access). The award-winning course includes 18 unique holes, including a par three that nearly hangs off a cliff.
No need to travel to play on world-famous courses.

Take it indoors
Bear Wallow Golf , 37 Maxwell Dr., Ste. 3, Hendersonville | If you want a more extensive golf experience than a single course can offer (or just aren’t a fan of the outdoors), this indoor golf facility is the place to be. No matter your skill level, the simulator lets you play or practice on 200+ courses — plus, you can also get lessons from a pro or join a league.
