You’re closer to enjoying more outdoor recreation in Woodfin thanks to the Buncombe County Commissioners’ approval of $18,896,251 for the Woodfin Greenway and Blueway project.

The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority contributed $5.89 million, in addition to $11.73 million from the Federal Highway Administration and $1.27 million from the County’s Open Space Bond Projects Fund. It’s the first Open Space Bond project, following voters’ approval of the bond in 2022.

So what exactly can you expect to see from the Woodfin Greenway and Blueway project? Let’s dive in:

  • Five miles of greenway along the French Broad River and Beaverdam Creek
  • The construction of a Whitewater Wave made from rock and concrete installed in the riverbed
  • Expansion of Riverside Park by nearly four acres, addition of an overlook pavilion + an area to observe the French Broad and the Wave

Silver-Line Park, which opened in April of 2022 and offers a playground, river access + a Craggy Mountain Rail Line connection, is also a part of the project.
