The fourth stop on the Asheville Butterfly Trail lands at the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary.

Fun fact: Blue Azures are blue when emerging in spring but lavender when emerging in summer.

Monarch migration may be en route, but a new winged species has touched down on the Asheville Butterfly Trail. Bee City Asheville’s trail of human-scale butterfly stations has a new addition — a Summer Azure at the Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary.

The pollinator advocate org is on a mission to install at least 10 stations across Buncombe County. All the butterflies represented will be native to WNC, and each station will include information about the history of the species, as well as a QR code to learn more about their pollination ecology, sustainability, and metamorphosis.

Blue Ridge Audubon partnered with Bee City Asheville to bring the Summer Azure to Beaver Lake Bird Sanctuary to underscore the role butterfly and moth caterpillars play in feeding baby birds. Eager for your photo op with the other butterflies? Explore the map below to find all the locations on the Asheville Butterfly Trail.
