Hi, Asheville. Brook here. Fitness + health are top of mind for many of us this time of year and I’m no different. I’ve always been into exercise (I still hold multiple N.C. State Powerlifting records from my high school days), and one of my goals for 2020 is to continue working out on the reg. Sure, I do it out of vanity, but also — and this is huge — because it helps me better manage the depression + anxiety I’ve struggled with for over two decades.

Since July, I’ve been working out at the North Asheville 9Round (61 N. Merrimon Ave. Suite 105) a 30-minute kickboxing spot with nine three-minute rounds that change daily — and it’s the best thing I’ve done for myself in a hot minute. I still love jogging, pilates, and yoga, but there’s something about punching + kicking a bag that is so empowering and fun — plus, getting a killer H.I.I.T. workout in half an hour is super rad.

Want to try it for yourself? AVLtoday readers get $50 off registration through the end of February— just tell them you read about it here. I hope to see y’all there — I’ll be the one in the pink gloves whose face is as red as her hair.
