Brook here, and if there’s one thing I love, it’s looking at houses. I know many of you may be in the market and not feeling like venturing out into the cold, so I bundled up and did it for you.

Come along with me to Hawthorne at Mills Gap (60 Mills Gap Rd.) to see how you can #TryThis.

What we tried (with pricing):

When you visit a spot and the cold, blustery, gray day doesn’t diminish its beauty or allure, you know it’s something special. That’s exactly how I felt visiting Hawthorne at Mills Gap. The blue, saltwater pool looked dazzling despite the cold, and the colorful lights + built-in lounge chairs made me want to jump right in and start splashing about.

The model apartment was bright, lovely and functional, making me wish I could settle in and spend the day there. I was also impressed by the convenience + safety of the contactless tour. They have Alexa set up to answer questions about the apartments and amenities so folks can maintain their safety. As someone with at-risk family members, I really appreciate this.

Let’s talk location. The complex is centrally located in South Asheville, with convenient access to places like Biltmore Estate, NC Arboretum, Sweeten Creek Brewing, the new Whole Foods + the Blue Ridge Parkway.

What not to miss:

No kidding — I would live here just for the 24-hour fitness center. As a parent who works full time, the hardest part of squeezing in my daily workouts is the time it takes to get to the park or the gym. Here, it’s mere steps away, and it includes multiple treadmills, free weights, and more.

Most impressive? The interactive virtual touchscreen that allows you to select from a vast array of workouts that come with an instructor, all at your fingertips. Wanna crank it up even more? There’s a HIIT hub with crossfit-style battle rope. Into a more serene workout? They have a separate yoga, stretching, and meditation studio. 🧘

What we’re still talking about:

Sure, you can make your own coffee, but is it ever as good as when the pros do it? Hawthorne at Mills Gap has multiple options for getting a good coffee fix. From the Starbucks coffee bar in the resident lounge to the Keurig machines in the 24-hour Cyber Cafe + coworking space, there’s always another delicious cup of ambition (to quote Dolly Parton) once you finish the last. ☕

Another highlight? The off-leash dog park. It’s not only covered in astroturf so it’s more sanitary and easy to maintain, it offers agility equipment to stimulate your pooch and tire them out. Plus, there’s covered seating in the dog pavilion, so you don’t have to worry about the elements while your dog is having the time of its life.

And while I love my dogs, I don’t love driving them across town for a bath or digging their hair out of the drain when I have to bathe them myself. At Hawthorne at Mills Gap, they have their own pup washing station, which is open 24-7 so you can get your pup squeaky clean, whenever they need it. 🐕
