Good morning, Asheville. If I had to guess, I’d bet many of you are spending more time than usual whipping up tasty eats at home. I know I am. It’s not only a necessity – some experts have likened baking and other hobbies to a survival instinct, as it can be a useful way to mediate the anxiety that can come from the intense stress + uncertainty a global pandemic creates. Making sweets + desserts can be particularly comforting.

And today, in honor of National Pecan Day, I am super excited to share with you something extra delicious: a chocolate bourbon pecan pie recipe from none other than Baked Pie Company.

Have you ever had the chance to visit? While they’re currently closed due to the pandemic, they have locations in Arden + Woodfin, as well as slices on offer at the Asheville Regional Airport. Their homemade pies come in a wide array of varieties — including more than 100 rotating flavors like hazelnut cream, red velvet, blueberry crumb, banana pudding, and peanut butter-oreo cream — and are absolutely heavenly. My very favorite way to enjoy them is their pie flights, wherein you get your choice of three slices of pie and a scoop of vanilla bean or salted caramel ice cream. They also won my heart for life when they let my daughter choose a stuffed animal from their bin to take home with her.

But that’s not all they’ve done to make me a lifelong fan + customer. When the pandemic first began, Baked Pie Company was among the first of local eateries to offer free bagged lunches to needy kids. They announced last week that they were suspending this operation temporarily, but fret not: you can still support them until they’re able to open their doors again by donating or buying a gift card.

And in the meantime, get your eating dress on, because we’re bringing the taste of Baked Pie Company into your home today. Follow along with the recipe below, or click here to print or save it as a pdf. Either way, you’re gonna wanna make this stat.
