Table of Contents

Much like the weather in our mountains, if you wait five minutes, a business here in Asheville has changed. Whether their doors are opening or closing, in a thriving city like ours, we know that all that change can be hard to keep track of. That’s why we’re here to help.

We talked a few months ago about 16 local businesses #ComingSoon, so for our fifth round of #Openings and #Closings, we have 16 more new businesses heading your way in Asheville.

ComingSoon

🍸 Asheville Beauty Academy | 📍28 Broadway St., Downtown Asheville

From the owners of Sovereign Remedies and Ole Shakey’s comes a new bar that will take the place of Tressa’s Downtown Jazz & Blues while tipping its hat to the history of the businesses that have occupied the building. Asheville Beauty Academy will open in September, featuring cocktails, champagne and brandy menus – the details of which are still being hammered out. Their motto? “The longer you stay, the better you look.”

🛀 C&Co. | 📍34 Broadway St., Downtown Asheville

Their second natural spa downtown, C&Co is currently renovating the space at 34 Broadway St. They will offer plant-based facials, back treatments, massage therapy + personally curated mini-facials. Opening date is TBD.

🍺 The Greenhouse | 📍49 Rankin Ave., Downtown Asheville

The Greenhouse, from Noble Cider, will be a modern, American bistro with a full bar program, specialty cider cocktails, flights of brandies + calvados, and Noble products on tap. It will open on Rankin Ave. sometime this month.

🐟 Jettie Rae’s Fish & Such | 📍River Arts District

A proposed project by Vinnie’s Neighborhood Italian owner Eric Scheffer, that would turn a small plot of Riverlink-owned property along the French Broad River into a casual seafood restaurant, green space + open-air pavilion. The plan was approved by The Asheville Technical Review Committee on June 3.

🍸 Barksdale |📍42 Banks Ave., Downtown Asheville

Keeping a low profile online, Barksdale is a members-only club in Downtown Asheville that is bringing the spirit of the “dive” bar back to life. “An honest drink at an honest price” is their motto, and that’s what you’ll get. Bonus: Hot dog offerings from two local chefs. Open daily, 3:30 p.m.-2 a.m.

🍻 CANarchy Collaboratory |📍39 N Lexington Ave., Downtown Asheville

After extensive renovations, the CANarchy – a craft beer collective – has opened their collaborative brewery in the spot where Lexington Avenue Brewery used to operate. Brewers from Oskar Blues Brewery, Cigar City Brewing, Perrin Brewing Company, Squatters Craft Beers, Wasatch Brewery, Deep Ellum Brewing Company, and Three Weavers Brewing Company will participate; with a food menu including Sunday brunch.

🍚 Gan Shan Station |📍143 Charlotte St., Asheville

After serving its last lunch on June 1, Gan Shan Station is refocusing to dinner with new items like Pad Thai and Som Tam, apps like ribs and cabbage pancakes + daily specials. If lunch is more your style, Gan Shan West will still be serving their one-of-a-kind, fast casual lunch + dinner with Chef Silver Cousler (formerly of Buxton Hall + Mission Chinese) as their new Chef de Cuisine.

🍹 The Golden Pineapple |📍503 Haywood Rd., West Asheville

This bartender-owned + operated neighborhood haunt serves tiki drinks, wine + classic dive deals (like a shot and a beer). Now open everyday (except Tuesday) 5 p.m.-2 a.m.

🍜 Itto Ramen Bar + Tapas |📍630 Haywood Rd., West Asheville

🍯 Tupelo Honey South |📍1829 Hendersonville Rd., South Asheville

Just around the corner from the Biltmore House, Tupelo Honey South has been a neighborhood favorite in South Asheville since its opening in 2016. They temporarily closed in February for renovations, but now they are back + better than ever, with new, Southern menu items and enough room for the whole family.

🍳Early Girl North |📍1020 Merrimon Ave. Ste. 106, North Asheville

Taking the place of Ambrose Bar and Bistro in North Asheville, Early Girl North is now the third location to join the Early Girl Family. Breakfast + coffee served daily, 8 a.m.-9 p.m.

NowClosed

BadHappy Poutine | 📍354 Merrimon Ave., Asheville

BadHappy Poutine closed its doors less than a year after its opening. Even though their concept was interesting, their lavishly-unhealthy food just didn’t seem to catch on in North Asheville.

Takosushi | 📍63 Southside Ave., Downtown Asheville

Takosushi’s mash-up menu of Asian and Southwestern/Mexican cuisine didn’t really seem to catch fire with local residents, although another fire that caught in the restaurant’s main commissary kitchen in Augusta could have played a part in the restaurant’s closing.
