This past Friday Asheville welcomed Wicked Weed’s new restaurant, Cultura. Located beside the Funkatorium (147 Coxe Ave.) on the South Slope, this new-agrarian cuisine was created in collaboration by Wicked Weed (91 Biltmore Ave.) and Chef Jacob Sessoms of Table (48 College St.).

Ali + I (your AVLtoday producers) gave Cultura a taste last week, and put together the 411 for y’all. For starters, the atmosphere is lovely and open. The menu is delicious and perfect for those wanting to share small plates or even those coming in ready to feast on a full appetite.

Despite the smaller space, the place feels quite large with a “garage door-style” entrance, lots of plants, globe lights hanging from the ceiling that look like floating paper lanterns, candles on the tables, a gorgeous bar + more. The bathrooms are a surprise compared to the rest of the atmosphere for the feature a blacklight lit hallway, with several single use bathrooms, definitely a cool place to take a bathroom selfie.

And now that sharing small plates is a common dining style today, you won’t be disappointed with Cultura’s Plates section. From sourdough bread, octopus + wilted carrots, to potatoes, lamb steak + snapper – there’s plenty of options to share with one to four people.

You may be surprised to see “The Feasts” written on the menu, but trust me when I say “and they’ll feast, feast, feast, feast!” Choose between The Swiss Chalet (bread bowl fondue), a Bucket of Birds, Racks on Racks (or add a third rack or ribs), The Country Club (steak + lobster), or Charleston No. Six (crabs + golden rice). Pro-tip: All of these will feed a group between two and six people.

The drinks and dessert did not disappoint either. With sour beer being served right next door (and served at Cultura), venture out with a delectable glass of wine or try one of their creative cocktails such as the Rose Water Spritz or Cup of Tea.

After such a large dinner, keep it simple with a Lemon Tart for dessert, or go big and try the Nutella Toast. And to finish the meal off, Cultura serves homemade cotton candy with grapefruit and a little sprinkle of CBD powder.
