Any remote workers out there starting to feel cooped up? Trust us, we get it. We highly recommend fresh air + sunlight, especially since the weather is starting to cool off.

Here are five local spots where you can work outsideWi-Fi connection included.

💻 Trade and Lore, 37 Wall St.
  • While its interior — decorated with greenery from local plant shop Palm + Pine — is dreamy, its modest patio space along bustling Wall Street offers fresh air, ample opportunities for people watching, and a view of local artist Ian Wilkenson’s beautiful mural of Catawba Falls along the stairwell connector to Battery Park.
💻 Liberty House Coffee & Cafe, 221 S. Liberty St.
  • With ample outdoor seating, coffee drinks galore, a killer menu (don’t miss the Farmhouse Skillet), and free Wi-Fi, you may want to work here all day long. An added bonus? You’re liable to encounter lots of pups to kiss.
💻 High Five Riverside, 2000 Riverside Dr.
  • Located along the French Broad River, this location offers lovely outdoor accommodations for working. Pro tip: there’s also walking trails if you want to take a leisurely stroll after knocking out your to-do list, plus coffee, pastries, snacks + smoothies if you need to refuel.

Cultivate Climbingformerly Climbmax — reopened on Sat., Sept. 10 after closing for a week for rebranding and remodeling. Owners Shiloh Mielke and Devin deHoll spearheaded the rebranding after acquiring the gym in March 2022. The duo revamped the gym’s logo + brand vision and brought in new climbing equipment.

Devin says, “Our new name emphasizes our vision to cultivate an inclusive space. We want the gym to be a safe and accessible place for all members of the community — regardless of race, sexual orientation, or climbing ability.”

One way that Cultivate is placing emphasis on inclusivity: new programs and classes like the monthly NC BIPOC Climbers Meetup. (Bonus: the first meetup is tonight, Sept. 14 at 7:30 p.m. + discounted day passes and gear are available for all BIPOC guests).

Learn more about the gym’s new vision + how you can visit the facility here.
