Let’s make this process plane and simple

How to navigate the Asheville Regional Airport

Traveling via plane is fun — jet-setting over beautiful blue waters or rolling hills, taking in cloud formations, and landing in a completely different location in a matter of hours is unlike anything else.

The whole navigating the airport part? Less exciting, and sometimes pretty stressful. To help make your time at the Asheville airport as smooth as possible, we’ve created a guide that covers everything from shuttles and parking to details on the airport’s 20+ nonstop flights.

What to know

  • Peak hours | According to an Asheville Airport spokesperson, peak hours fluctuate depending on the flight schedule. This November, peak hours usually occur from 6-8 a.m., then again from 10:30 a.m.–1:30 p.m. The airport does not track TSA wait times, but recommends arriving two hours before your flight to be safe.
  • Map it out | If you’re like us and need to completely visualize a place before you step foot inside, this map of the entire airport will be your saving grace.
  • Food and drink | The Blue Ridge Trading + Tavern serves breakfast biscuits, sandwiches, salads, and coffee drinks. There’s also Cinnabon and Auntie Anne’s pretzels available.
  • Reminder | By May 3, 2023, you will need a REAL ID to board commercial flights in the US.
  • Flight status | While we recommend staying updated via your respective airline, you can also check the airport’s dashboard for your flight status in a pinch.

Are you ready for some football? Ahem, not the American kind. The men’s 2022 FIFA World Cup kicks off on Sunday, Nov. 20 and runs through Sunday, Dec. 18.

Luckily, you won’t need to catch a flight to Qatar to get in on the action. These local sports spots are gearing up (scarves and all) for the big tourney featuring watch parties, specials, and more.

Archetype Brewing - West, 265 Haywood Rd. | This neighborhood brewery will show the majority of matches throughout the tournament (besides the ones that kick off at 5 a.m.).

Bold Rock Hard Cider Taproom, 39 N. Lexington Ave. | This downtown cidery will stream all the opening round games and offer a variety of drink specials.

Asheville Brewing Co., 675 Merrimon Ave. | Watch a supersized version of matches at this brewery’s North Asheville movie theater space. Tickets are free, but must be secured in-person.

THE WRAP

Today’s issue was written by Laura.

Editor’s pick: I’m such a fan of the watch parties at Asheville Brewing Co. During last year’s March Madness tournament, I munched on many a slice of pizza throughout the UNC men’s team’s ascent to the championship game. I also used to watch screenings of Game of Thrones, back when that was still a thing.
