These painted pumpkin proves you don’t need to carve to create. It has guts — just not pumpkin guts. These painted leaves look just as vibrant as the real thing.
The poll will close on Wednesday, Oct. 25 — so be sure to vote for the jack-o’-lantern you want to be crowned cream of the carving crop.

After eight years of service, Buxton Hall Barbecue will close its doors on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Reasoning for the beloved restaurant’s closing has yet to be shared. A Chai Pani Restaurant Group representative says that more news will be shared in the coming months. (Ashevegas Hot Sheet)

After 25 years, Asheville Pizza & Brewing Company’s 675 Merrimon Ave. location is for sale — but it’s not closing. The current owners and partners will continue running the downtown location, Asheville T-Shirt Co., and its collaboration with Rabbit Rabbit, plus the upcoming Ninja Spirits distillery and The Buckminster cocktail line.

See the final Art in the Heart project in Pack Square Plaza from Sunday, Oct. 22 to Monday, Nov. 27. “Letters to my Children,” the project from late artist Lara Nguyen, features two 5’x7′ prints detailing messages to her young children after she received a stage 4 cancer diagnosis. An interactive chalkboard will be on display until Wednesday, Nov. 15.

Today, Friday, Oct. 20, is the last day to submit public input on the future of Pisgah View State Park. The NC Division of Parks and Recreation is in the early stages of creating a 20-year master plan for the park, which spans 1,600 acres across Buncombe and Haywood Counties. Take the survey.

Buncombe County Commissioners approve funding for outdoor recreation in Woodfin

You’re closer to enjoying more outdoor recreation in Woodfin thanks to the Buncombe County Commissioners’ approval of $18,896,251 for the Woodfin Greenway and Blueway project.
The Buncombe County Tourism Development Authority contributed $5.89 million, in addition to $11.73 million from the Federal Highway Administration and $1.27 million from the County’s Open Space Bond Projects Fund. It’s the first Open Space Bond project, following voters’ approval of the bond in 2022.
Five miles of greenway along the French Broad River and Beaverdam Creek
The construction of a Whitewater Wave made from rock and concrete installed in the riverbed
Expansion of Riverside Park by nearly four acres, addition of an overlook pavilion + an area to observe the French Broad and the Wave
Silver-Line Park, which opened in April of 2022 and offers a playground, river access + a Craggy Mountain Rail Line connection, is also a part of the project.
Molly and I were blown away by all the incredible submissions for our carving contest. Y’all have some serious pumpkin prowess. In fact, I may take some inspiration Mariah G. and carve my own pup’s face into a pumpkin — although I’m not sure mine will look nearly as impressive.
