Let’s talk about shopping local. Back in February, we participated in Go Local Week celebrating our local, small business owners through activities, discounts, socials + more.

Asheville is home to popular mom and pop restaurants, small retail stores, mechanics and insurance agencies. But what defines a “mom and pop” business? These places are usually:

  • Independently-owned, family-controlled
  • Maintain a minimum amount of employees
  • Have a smaller business volume than most places
  • Not franchised
  • Only open in one location

We asked you to help us celebrate our vibrant, locally-driven economy by telling us your favorite mom + pop businesses in Asheville. Here were a few of our favorites to get you started:

Curio | 📍2 Battery Park Ave.

Family-owned since 2011, a shop for the “cute and curious,” Curio has all the toys for your infant, toddler or child. Located in downtown Asheville, this small store holds a large inventory full board games, crafts, art + science kits, stuffed animals, trending trinkets + so much more.
